Burkut – the oldest Polish balneological health resort. The experienced resort their best times in the 20's of XIX century. At that time there were built more than 15 villas. The resort was destroyed by the Austrian army in 1848 during the suppression of revolutionary unrest.In 80-ies of the XIX century the resort revived, but its further development was interrupted by the First World War.Village Burkut is known for mineral water spring called "Burkut" which means "sour, wine." It became the name of the settlement.In summer 1901 Lesya Ukrajinka, who treated herself by this mineral water, has lived in Burkut during more than 40 days.Here she wrote a single cycle of her poetry. Exactly in this corner of the Carpathian Mountains the cycles of poetry "Minutes" and "Rhythms" were born. Ivan Franko two times visited Lesya Ukrajinka in Burkut, and regaled her with personally caught "royal fish" – trout.The journey has left a noticeable trace his creative work,thanks to this appeared the cycle"The stanzas of Burkut".
